SAN ANTONIO (AP)—The San Antonio Spurs knew they required changes, plus they utilized the NBA draft to begin producing some.

The Spurs kicked away an unusually busy draft for mentor Gregg Popovich by buying and selling backup place shield George Hill(notes) toward the Indiana Pacers for their first-round pick, 6-foot-7 forward Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State. San Antonio then picked Texas shield Cory Joseph at No. 29 overall.
